Evaluation

The website that was evaluated was http://www.comtechdoc.org. During the evaluation of this website, many positive and negative aspects were discovered. Upon visiting the site, individuals (whether student or teacher) are not requested to become a member to access the information located on the site. Therefore, the teacher can advise his/her students to visit this site and research information necessary for the completion of projects, portfolios or other materials needing content.

Students and teachers will find that the website primarily focuses on the learning of technological devices, operating systems, networking, security, etc. The information provided is presented in such a manner that it is easily interpreted by the students. The information is categorized into sub-topics so that information can readily be identified on different links. The information is current but not fully up-to-date. The information on the website is as good as the book and in some cases even better. Since the information is rarely updated, the website could be regarded as being unmanaged by the author/manager.

The website is designed so that the information can be easily accessed by anyone. Links show related information about relevant websites that can be used in collaboration with the information presented on the http://www.comtechdoc.org website. The name of the author was not present to the viewers. The website does not provide feedback so that students, teachers and other individuals can interact with the author of the website. There are no online activities that the students can participate in to enhance their knowledge of the content. It therefore reduces the appeal and lowers the interest of the students and the teacher; nonetheless the information is informative, educational and relevant to the classroom. The website is design in such a manner that the elements and features allow individual to search for only information. The website lacks animations, graphics and sound files that would help to enhance the site. This website also excludes proper graphical representation that could be used to enhance the creativity and innovative nature of the site. This would have helped the site greatly to capture the interest of the students’ and teacher.

The overall presentation of the site is average. It provides important, relevant and substantial information and content that will be useful to individuals who are seeking to do projects, research or persons who are curious to learn about the computer system and its operations. Although the website lacks proper graphical representation, it makes up for this providing links to other websites that can provide visual and graphic aids that will help in the grasping of certain content and/or material. The material is properly punctuated, free of grammatical errors and the content is current and up-to-date. The website can be a great asset to individuals seeking to build on their knowledge of the computer system and its operations
